Some progress on the long-awaited fire unit standards being converted into QCTO skills programs. The email that accompanied this notice confirms that skills programs are being considered. So it is not just the full qualification. This is a positive sign.
In my view, these fire-related programs should fall under the health and safety stream. This is primarily about workplace fire readiness and basic firefighting as part of OHS compliance, not large-scale, government-coordinated fire response. But either way, it’s good to see the conversation finally opening up.
If you are a stakeholder, please get involved. Remember: once the program has been established, it’s too late to make complaints. Now is the time to have your say.
