Updated: Meeting is set for 10 July to discuss QCTO audiom vision, and the general OHS programs, of which some are in final stages of approval or have been approved and just need to be posted to the QCTO website.
**Update: Apparently this meeting was just to update me and allow me to relay that info. Since stakeholders in OHS participated I assumed this was a public update, which HWSETA have said it is not. At this point, we just need the update. I do not mind receiving it and sharing the info.
Context: The purpose of this article is to help OHS training providers plan given we are less than one year from last date for enrolment on all remaining OHS unit standards (at time of posting)
QCTO OHS SKILLS PROGRAMS
A meeting is set for 10 July 10am – 11am (1 hour)
The agenda is as follows:
- Update on QCTO vision (understood it will probably not move forward, but closing this project at least) – short
- Update on QCTO audio program (waiting for HPCSA…) – short
- Update on the upcoming QCTO skills programs in OHS (clusters 1 – 5, and 5 – 10) – bulk of meeting
As I understand it, this is more of an update from HWSETA on where those programs are in the process of becoming established.
The discussion on general OHS clusters 1 – 10 should not be OHS subject matter related. Unless those who posted comments by November 2024 by invite were not heard when following the correct feedback channels. I widely published news of the programs for comment before Nov 2024, and so did HWSETA. In my opinion, no one should be complaining about not knowing about it.
Please contact HWSETA if you want to be present at the meeting, or contact me via this website’s contact page if you are having trouble getting a response.
On a personal note: I hope this meeting remains focused on its intended purpose. In previous engagements, particularly around the First Aid programs, significant time was spent addressing off-agenda concerns. E.g. An individual’s request to scrap all three first aid programs and start again (after implementation). While all input has its place, this meeting is best used to ensure progress and clarity on the establishment of these programs, rather than revisiting already closed phases. I would also invite any professional bodies that feel they may object, to speak up now rather than when the programs are established.
Reminder: The meeting focus is meant to receive an update about these programs, and not to discuss the topical content within those programs.
See the OHS programs in their current form in this table of drafts posted in August 2024 as per this article. Note that you can download the curricula from that page.
